Making Everyday Appliances More Efficient

India’s ceiling fans quietly drain the grid. India’s ceiling fans account for nearly 20% of all residential electricity use. For decades, the technology inside them stayed unchanged, relying on inefficient induction motors that quietly inflated household electricity bills without anyone questioning why.

A single deep piece of motor engineering. Atomberg Technologies was founded in 2012 by IIT Bombay alumni Manoj Meena and Sibabrata Das, who spent the company’s early years in R&D before launching its first product, the Efficio ceiling fan, in 2015. The founders re-engineered the everyday ceiling fan, replacing the conventional induction motor with a BLDC motor and cutting power consumption from 70W to 35W per fan, with no compromise on airflow.

Efficiency built to travel, and to circulate. The products are built to operate reliably in markets where voltage fluctuations are common, including many Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, extending the benefit well beyond metro India. Atomberg has also embedded circularity into its operations, with 100% of its raw material packaging designed to be returnable and any metal scrap generated redirected back into the production cycle. Backed since by investors including A91 Partners, Trifecta Capital, and Survam Partners, and having proven the model in fans, Atomberg is now extending the same efficiency-first approach to a wider appliance ecosystem, including water purifiers, mixer grinders, and smart locks.
